  • Not only is industrial sector providing higher wages, but it also bringing structural changes.(two independent clauses)

  • Green energy is not only a potential solution for global warming, but it also a sustainable alternative (comma for emphasis) 
  • Not only does Nile flow through desert, but it also irrigate land. (emphasis on independent clauses) 

4.Not only but also for connecting equal units —

  • Mango is not only a nutritious but also an affordable tropical fruit. (adjectives) 
  • WTO is established not only to deal with rules but also to facilitate negotiations for free trade. (two infinitives) 
  • Global warming is not only a cause for  climate change but also a threat for biodiversity.(two phrases) 
  • Trees not only breathe through leaves but also produce food through photosynthesis.(two independent clauses) 

5.Subject verb agreement in not only but also —

  • Not only Ganga but also Indus river is originating from Himalaya. (two singular nouns with singular auxiliary) 
  • Not only snakes but also lizards are reptiles (two plural nouns with plural auxiliary) 
  • Not only she but also her relatives are so co-operative.(singular +plural = plural near auxiliary is used)
