Causes of poverty in India

It looks like that poverty is a curse for Indian subcontinent. Shockingly, the numbers of poverty trodden population are so stubborn as they are not willing to go down with eradication measures. For better picture, let’s see the causes of poverty in India and possible measures.

Causes of poverty in India

Here are some chronic causes that proved speed breakers in the poverty eradication move in India since historical times.

1. Subjugation and exploitation by colonial powers

Fortunately, Indian leaders have a lot to blame for the persistent socio-economic evil– poverty. Among all, the most potent one is the Indian subjugation and exploitation under colonial rule.

And, It is custom and tradition in India to criticize colonial powers for the plight of poverty-stricken population bypassing power greedy opportunistic elements. After independence, British rule was the perpetual whipping boy for the Indian backwardness as per the ruling elites.

Convincingly, both parties use this magic wand interchangeably against each other to woo voters.

2. Achievement of Congress Party in eradicating poverty

So far, Congress party is instrumental in presenting Gandhi Family, in its election campaign, as the “Messiah of poor” to milk vote of poor by giving lofty slogans in the form of “Garibi hatao”.

But in reality, the absolute number of poverty-trodden people have been substantially increased in their own rule. On the other hand, countries like China, without making so much noise, uprooted the menace of poverty very effectively.

3. BJP’s omnipotent India image and blame game politics

Ridiculously, the present ruling party is two steps ahead of its opponent. It, with its coronation, declares that India is superpower and there is no trace of poverty. Immediately, they starts singing the greatness of historical past.

Actually, they do not believe in poverty and poor. They always see theirs India is shining. Diplomatically, they argue that it is the congress which is responsible for the country’s backwardness as it ruled most of the time after independence.

In this way, both parties have their own perspective and point of view to argue against each other. One blames for British rule, whereas other for congress for the poverty. But in reality, poverty is sandwiched between two, and consequently, growing upward sharply.

Poverty in India: Measures

In India, there is no need for extra another one policy and programs to eradicate poverty as the earlier numbers are out of control.

People of India need employment, job alternatives, and technical expertise to nurture their livelihood. Mere free food, education of certificate, Awas yojana aren’t going to solve this problem permanently.

At the present, India is going to become leader in the world in terms of population soon. And, surely, they are on the verge of losing their demographic dividends. Unless they do something to employ these vast majority of people, the vicious cycle of poverty and hunger will move on to infect future generations.

According to government data, India’s poverty rate is more than 24 percent, means around 400 million people are still living below 1.90$ per day. This means that the poverty in India is really made a capital by political fraternity

Obviously, it is convincingly maintained and perpetuated, to advance the intent to capture power, by the both leading parties.

Moreover, being poor is the structured mentality in India to reap the free of cost benefits. Without attitudinal transformation of both ruled and ruling, the menace of poverty cannot be eradicated effectively.
